Potty Training Boys: Do You Know When It's The Right Time To Start Potty Training?

Start too soon and potty training boys is likely to be a challenging experience for both parent and child.

There is no particular age at which a child is able to cope with being potty trained. And don’t yield to hassle from friends or family to get on with it. It’s up to you to recognize the clues that indicate your son can contend with this developmental milestone.

Here’s what you should be looking for:-

• He can go two or three hours without needing his diaper changed.
• He has regular bowel movements.
• He is starting to notice the physical sensations that he needs to empty his bladder or empty his bowels.
• He is able to pull his pants down and up unaided.
• He is not displaying any signs of emotional trauma such as adjusting to a new baby in the house.
• He can focus on an activity for several minutes without being distracted.
• He is showing signs of wanting to be more independent. He may have started to imitate other people’s actions.
• He understands the words that will be used in potty training such as wee, poo, clean and dirty.
• He understands and can carry out easy instructions such as pick up the bricks and put them in the toy box.
